THE PRESETS - ARE YOU THE ONE? (LIFELIKE 1 SERIOUS REMIX) VIDEO

A technicoloured trip through crystal cities and swirling universes, this new video for The Presets is a snapshot straight from the mind’s eye of some of Australia’s premiere creative gurus. On the hunt for some music to blast out of their German car stereos, BMW heard the 2005 stormer Are You The One? and flipped.

However we wanted to revitalise the engine room of the song and commissioned a remix by French whiz-kid (and all around nice guy), Lifelike. The result was an post-electro love child, that bridged the gap between Beams and The Presets sophomore album, Apocalypso.

To celebrate BMW and Modular approached Jonathan Zawada and Shane Sakkeus (alongside the production brainiacs at Collider) to create a new video algorithm to solve the age old problem "what do youget when you cross The Presets + BMW + LifeLike + Zawada + Sakkeus + Collider?" The answer; a joy ride of the imagination that results in pure optical bliss. Traversing through parallel worlds of rainbow moon rocks, pyramids, and cosmic clouds, THE ONE(s) navigates the heavens and the earths alike. Ecstasy to the eye. Drink it in people.

Trippy.

Ladyhawke Blogs!

Pip has been touring all over the shop with people like Peaches, Soulwax and 2 Many DJs... as well as playing our very own Modular parties. She's started blogging over at her MYSPACE, but we've cut and pasted the first entry below, check back there regularly for updates.

"So, I've been doing heaps of live shows in the last couple of months. They've been heaps of fun, taken me to some places I've never been to before, like Sheffield, Brighton, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cardiff, Bristol, lots around London and lots more coming up! Anyway, when I play live, I only have two arms, I cant play everything at once myself haha so for the shows and touring I have a couple of lovely boys helping me out. So I thought I'd introduce you to my backing band, Tom on bass, Danny on guitar, and Ryan on Drums!! Check out the photo to see what they look like. Or catch us in person at The Macbeth in Hoxton, East London on May 14th. I'm playing a full show and my friend Peaches is flying over to DJ!"

Ladyhawke - Back Of The Van + FREE REMIX

Modular is beaming a rainbow-sized smile as we welcome Ladyhawke to the gang. Ladyhawke aka Pip Brown is the Kiwi born, Aussie bred, now residing in London artiste who stitches pure modern electro pop with the vintage day-glo disco elements of a bygone era. Ladyhawke's debut album will be released in September this year. Whilst Back Of The Van coupled with remixes by Fred Falke and Mock & Toof will be available early June.

Back Of The Van is an 80s hair brush sing-a-long that sparkles with discodust. A timewarp jam that is bringing the shimmering synth and bouncy bass of the acid-wash decade to a new audience. Whilst Van She Tech's Fire Engine Remix is a sweaty club rub, laced with a downright dirty attitude.

The Presets - J Award Nomination

The Presets are the first act to be nominated for the J Award.

The kings of electro-rock have delivered on the expectations set by their
debut a few years back with their sophomore effort Apocalypso. In equal parts menacing and enticing, darkly mysterious and compulsively fun, The Presets have a developed an individual style already being emulated around Australia and around the world. Triple J Music Director Richard Kingsmill, said ‘The Presets album is set to be one of the landmark Australian albums of '08. My People pointed towards an exciting second album might be coming, but the duo have exceeded those expectations. It's one of the darkest party records of all time.’

Apocalypso
is stocked in the party jams aisle of the MOD SHOP, JB HIFI and ITUNES. Features current single and glittering techno gem, This Boy’s In Love.

Van She - Strangers + Van She Tech Remix

Directed by Lorin Askill from Collider.

Strangers is a post-disco, brain-illuminating anthem, proving that the boy’s talents shine brighter than a cosmos of neon lights. The psychedelic electronic bliss of Strangers with its pulsating bass, beautifully constructed harmonies and teen virtue will be the sacred song of many this Winter. Remixes of Strangers come courtesy of emotronic powerpop producer Yuksek, club house master Strip Steve & an edit by Van She Tech themselves.

The seeds of Van She's debut record were sewn in between tour dates and the various remixes. Once the bare bones of the record were assembled, Van She travelled to London to record with acclaimed English producer Jim Abbiss whose previous work includes Arctic Monkeys, Placebo & Ladytron. The result is a beautiful, confident & a spacey modern rock album of which Strangers is the first ‘official’ single to be released.

The touring front will remain busy for Van She over the coming months on the road nationally for the tail end of the Pnau tour before doing the QLD leg of Rock The Schools, the We Love Sounds tour & The Bravery support in June. Make sure you catch Van She as they begin to fulfill their promise as the band to watch in 2008.

Van She Tech touched themselves up with their remix of Strangers, get it for less than pocket lint (FREE) HERE.

The Presets - Are You The One? (Lifelike Remix)

A party throwdown that joins the old with the new, this barnstorming new interpretation of Are You The One? has been masterly brought to “life” by French whiz-kid, Lifelike. Lifelike has stamped his name resoundingly onto the minds of electronica fans the world-over. His 1 Serious Remix of AYTO gives a respectful nod-of-the-head to the original track, but is a true reappropriation in its delivery. For Presets connoisseurs, this represents the closest thing to a bridge between Beams and their sophomore album, Apocalypso. In a genre-spotting sense, Lifelike has spawned a track that sits somewhere between a raw, industrial, noise aesthetic, and filtered disco 2am party jam.

Modcast Episode 14 - Gentlemen Drivers

So we've lived up to our promise of regular podcasts, and for this next round Gentlemen Drivers from Paris have stepped up to the plate.
Regulars at our Modular parties in France, Gentlemen Drivers kindly stitched up all a bunch of tres bien tracks for the latest ModCast. Whilst their sound has been described by some genre-casting aficionados as a midpoint between 80s and 90s club music, Gentlemen Drivers have remixed the ass off tracks like Homecoming by The Teenagers and DVNO by Justice. Word is that they got some of their own productions in the works too. The latest ModCast is a hot jam city of old school house and disco that needs to go straight from your puter to your pod. GET IT NOW. C’est trop trop!

Cut Copy - Australian 'In Ghost Colours' Tour

CUT /// COPY - ‘IN GHOST COLOURS NATIONAL TOUR’ JUNE 2008

With the stardust having barely settled following the release of Cut Copy’s chart topping sophomore album In Ghost Colours and having dazzled audiences with their appearance at the recent V Festival, come June the masters, purveyors and destroyers of indie-dance Cut Copy (Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey & Mitchell Scott) are set to embark on a full-fledged run of national headline dates supported by 2 DFA special guests, happy house hero The Juan McLean (USA) & The Shocking Pinks (NZ).

The Cutters comet, otherwise known as In Ghost Colours, rocked the world when it came hurtling to Earth on March 22, tearing up both the Aria Album Chart and the iTunes Album Chart smashing the #1 spot on debut. Having been four years in the making, Cutters were in shock and utterly over the moon upon hearing the news of taking home the top slot.

Coinciding with the forthcoming tour will be the ‘official release’ of the epic sax-house anthem Hearts On Fire. Blazed out in its new album-version glory, Hearts On Fire will be accompanied by the additional remixing work of the Midnight Juggernauts, Holy Ghost! & Knightlife.

Cut Copy’s live show has been likened to that of a lunar eclipse, a perfect harmony of celestial events which results in thousands putting down what they were doing to shed glittery tears of joy at the phenomena. With tickets set to sell out in record time, fans should get in early to avoid missing out. Tickets on sale Thursday 24th April at 9am – details below.
