Happy Turkey Day, America! -or- 1 of the reasons why you should love Miranda July
----------------- Bulletin Message -----------------
From:
Miranda July
Date: 22 Nov 2007, 00:06
hello, for those of you who are american, you now have a holiday. there may be times during this holiday where you feel a) not as happy as you had planned on feeling, b) like ripping someone's head off, or c) fat.
this is because it is a holiday celebrating genocide.
there may also be some moments where you feel pretty ok. this is because you don't have to go to work or school. also: the familial bond, it just won't quit.
and then there may be some times when you don't feel anything at all. try to stay with this feeling as long as possible. don't be afraid. and then, when you can't stand it any more, do a Learning To Love You More asssignment. there are three new ones up, no one has done them yet:
Assignment 67: Repair something.
Assignment 66: Make a field guide to your yard.
Assignment 64: Teach us an exercise.
all my best,
miranda

Signs Defiled!!!
So, sometimes when I'm walking around NYC or taking the god-forsaken subway I'm easily annoyed at the world and pretty much everyone in it. And then sometimes you see a brightly colored little boy hugging a penis in the snow and nothing else really seems to matter.
Check out this new site called Signs Defiled - basically pictures of really funny vandalism of public signs in NYC.

The Yellow Bird Project

One thing we do like is a win-win situation. The Yellow Bird Project are the definition of win-win. They get your favourite artists (cough, Wolfmother, cough) to do a doodle on a t-shirt, then they sell that t-shirt, and allllll the money goes to charity. So the artist gets to plug their chosen charity, you get a nice t-shirt, and the cash money goes to a good cause. What a perfect world.
In addition to Wolfmother, tees by Devendra Banhart, Stars, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Au Revoir Simone, etc are also available.

Heima

WWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Sigur Ros have just released a DVD called Heima, and it's probably the most beautifully majestic music DVD we've ever seen. The film documents a series of shows Sigur Ros played in Iceland in a collection of incredible, naturally cinematic and insanely mesmerising locations.
Putting it on is akin to bathing your brain in mineral water made of angel's piss.
You can get the idea from the trailer HERE.

Heart Made Of Sound - The Tribute Video
Ron from Softlightes sent me this video he found on youtube, a tribute of sorts to the Softlightes and the video for Heart Made Of Sound directed by K. Moyes.
It's pretty genius and reinterprets the stop motion from the original video but ALSO includes a sweet love story. Nice job Hankypankyfranky.

Rugged explorers of cosmic rock Van She are set to return with a lurching space monster of a track called Cat & The Eye. Anthemic, stomping rock with elegant, otherworldly electronic touches, Cat & The Eye is on radio now and TV sooner rather than.. later.
A beautifully surreal video directed by Melbourne androids Krozm will be online very very soon but we got some flicks to tickle your naughties right here.

SOFTBOXES AND SOFTLIGHTES
As much as I'd love to post what I had for lunch, I just don't think it could be compared to that silence of the lambs shit Levins ate a few posts ago.
A few Sundays back Goetze and his enviable biblical beard took a walk down to Ultimo to pop in on the filming of The Microwave Song. The new Softlightes video clip was directed by Kris Moyes and we think it's got something to do with hands, gloves and glitter...
More flicks HERE, HERE and HERE.

FYI - I probably won't be eating lunch today. Start worrying about my health now!

LUNCH 31/10/07
Roast pork salad from Bourke St Bakery, Surry Hills
After yesterdays salami based disappointment, the good doctor Marty Slammin' called Bourke St Bakery earlier today and found out todays salad: roast pork.
Our mouths salivating for the entire 8 to 10 minute walk there AND the entire 8 to 10 minute walk back, we opened our plastic containers back at the office and seriously did not say a word for a further 8 to 10 minutes.
This fantastic salad combined a generous amount of thin, juicy pork slices with crunchy green beans and slaw, beetroot, corn kernels, sweet nectarine and something pickled, smothered in a vinagerry dressing that seemed to yell "Hey, cafe on Crown St with a Lemon on the roof: FUCK YOU!".

MODCASTS ARE NOW WEEKLY
Alright!
We realized we'd been all quiet on the podcast front (the last thing we put up was a video of Muscles pretending to be interested in CD's being made), so we called up all our favourite DJs and asked them to make us a mix. The we realized that we know like thousands of DJs so we thought "hey dudes let's make this shit happen weekly!".
So if you click HERE you'll hear the first of the new weekly modcasts, this time by our good homie Radge (pictured above, mostly naked). Over the next few weeks there'll be mixes by folks like The Bang Gang, Pandemonium Jones, Nick Catchdubs, Spruce Lee and seriously I haven't I thought that far ahead!!
So yeah click HERE for some of that good spooky goodness, here's the info for Radge's mix - just in time for Halloween!!
Les Nuit Des Traquées aka The Night of the Hunted
A Halloween Mix by Radge
Radge is this super cool guy with a beard and glasses. I'm sure you know a lot guys like that but this guy is different. He's the kind of guy who'll invite you over for spaghetti bolognese and after being there for ten minutes he'll make you go to the supermarket to buy pasta because he forgot to. But you know what? You don't even care because the spaghetti bolognese is that good.
And so is this mix, a particularly haunted mix of tunes Radge has put together for Halloween.
If you like what you hear head over to http://www.myspace.com/allthekingshorses and offer Radge a Macy's voucher. If you live in Sydney you can see him every week in the flesh at Club 77 for a new night he's running with Spruce Lee called KON DING. If you are Radge you should've invited me over for that roast you were cooking on Sunday night. What the hell dude seriously.

LUNCH 30/10/07
Grilled beef salad from that cafe with the lemon on the roof on Crown St, Surry Hills.
After getting to Bourke St Bakery only to find that today's salad was a salami salad (we were hoping for lamb), myself and the good doctor Marty Slammin' wandered over to Crown St to see what meaty salads were on offer when we found a cafe with a large paper mache lemon out the front, hovering dangerously over the pavement.
Reading the menus displayed helpfully close to the counter, it quickly became clear that there were three salads to choose from; grilled haloumi, grilled chicken and beef, also grilled. I had enjoyed the haloumi salad at least twice before however the sun was up and Marty and I needed meat so we ordered the grilled beef.
Ten minutes and nine dollars fifty (each) later we were presented with two white cardboard trapezoids and a set of plastic cutlery. Upon our return to the office we opened the boxes and were pleased with the amount of meat on top of the mixed greens. Also noticeable were small slices of capsicum, some cucumber and two thin lemon wedges. Always out to prove he's a dickhead, Marty added crunched up pork cracklins to his salad in what was sure to be the dumbest thing he'd done that hour.
The beef itself was as tasty as it was thinly sliced, and as salty as it was a little overcooked. The greens included a nice amount of rocket, perhaps too much cos lettuce and, unfortunately for all involved, that brownish lettuce that tastes like ass. I believe the capsicum was a great addition however i was indifferent to the fairly wet, tasteless cucumber. The lemony oil dressing that engulfed the salad gets two thumbs up.
All in all, I wish I got a sandwich.
5.5 out 10
(Marty gave his 6.5 out of 10 largely due to the pork cracklins)
Black Moth Super Rainbow
Our man Matt Dillmore has directed a brilliantly bizarre new video for American space pop band Black Moth Super Rainbow. Dillmore works with the boss Tom Kuntz on all his video and commercial work and has gone solo on this one......
